Replace Wiper Blades – Winter Grade
One of the first things you’ll need to do as the weather turns is replacing your windshield wipers. They get worn down and crack or break as the seasons turn, and a poorly maintained blade will not work well in the colder months, especially against snow! You’ll need to get high-quality wipers, too, such as those that are geared towards winter driving. To see if you need to replace your wipers, look at the rubber and see if it’s flexible and clears the glass when it’s operated.
Check Your Lights
Check all the lights on your vehicle and make sure that they are operational. This includes headlights, taillights, parking lights, brake lights, and even emergency flashers. Replace older and broken bulbs as needed, and make sure they are all cleaned thoroughly. Don’t be afraid to upgrade your older vehicle’s lights for newer, halogen lamps, for better visibility and safer driving.
Check Your Brakes and Tires
Hazardous weather and road conditions require great stopping power, and that means good brakes and tires. You’ll need to check your tires and brakes right at the start of the season, especially the tread of your tires, to make sure that you’re ready for the colder weather! Most dealerships and shops will do checks on these for free.
Have Battery Inspected
You should also have your battery inspected, as a fully charged battery is necessary to start your car in the colder weather. A trained technician can replace and inspect your vehicle’s battery, to see if there are signs of corrosion on the battery terminals and or cable ends.
Change Your Oil and Oil Filter
Finally, make sure your oil is changed and that the oil filter is clean enough to allow for proper operation. Changing your oil regularly is a good idea, even outside fall or winter!
