What is Audi’s eRot technology system?
As one of the German Big Three, Audi is expected to keep up with the latest and greatest technology. Well, not only is the brand keeping up, but it’s also finding new ways to remain as efficient as possible. Recently, the brand built onto the idea that vehicles can get even more efficient – and it has to do with vehichles’ suspension. If you own a hybrid or electric model, you’re probably familiar with regenerative brakes. Well, Audi has taken this regeneration concept and applied it to the suspension with its new eRot (electromechanical rotary damper) technology system. Read on for more information on the topic!
How does regenerative suspension work?
Audi’s eRot technology is a way for the dampers to reuse energy instead of burning it off. So, with eRot, the traditional damper system gets replaced, making way for more energy to be sent to the battery. When Audi was testing the product, it was able to reuse about 150 watts on the road and up to 613 watts on tarmac (with wattage equal to power over time). It’s possible that over time, this technology would be able to save drivers some cost on gas and possibly provide a bit more comfort on the road.
Will regenerative suspension be used in new models?
While testing has not yet been completed, it is expected that this eRot system could make it into future models. Audi will most likely create some sort of concept car that includes the system, which could eventually spawn an actual production model.
