What kind of car was used in the original Ghostbusters?

The original Ghostbusters traveled around in a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor. The model was a combination car, which means that it employed a Cadillac-style body with a configured ambulance or limo-style addition. The 1984 film featured an ambulance-style car, which acted as the Ghostbusters’ mean of transportation. In the movie, one of the characters (Stantz) pays a not-so-whopping $4,800 for the car and states that it needs an abundance of repairs.

According to Stantz in the 1984 Ghostbusters film, the Cadillac comically needed “suspension work and shocks, brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear end… new rings, mufflers, a little wiring…”

What car will the Ghosbusters drive in the 2016 film?

The franchise stuck with Cadillac for the 2016 version of the film, but this model will be a 1982 Cadillac Deville. The model will still be called the Ecto-1, after its famous past counterpart, but this time, a slew of women will be driving it. It’s been said that this Cadillac doesn’t seem to be in as rough of shape when the Ghostbusters receive it. The film will be released in theatres July 15, 2016.
